There are only two approaches to data collection from paper forms: to involve many people in manual data keying in, or to start using automatic form input system.
The choice is simple.
Manual data entry is boring and troublesome. It implies many problems such as delays in data capture, great amount of operator's misprints, high expenses for labor, rent of office space, etc. The only decision of all these problems is automatic data capture system.
DSPL uses specialized third party software for Intelligent Character Recognition.
DSPL ICR is a powerful ATL COM component that allows you to easily add Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR), Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) and Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) to your Windows applications.
DSPL ICR also has extensive preprocess functionality that lets you cleanup and modify your images before they are analyzed. In addition,
DSPL ICR has all of the advanced features you need to develop complete workflow solutions, like line removal, form recognition and automatic region processing.
DSPL ICR can be used as an ActiveX control in development environments that accept ActiveX controls, like Visual Basic.

Filters
- Despeckle the image.
- Fill white or black horizontal and vertical gaps.
- Erode and dilate the image.

Form Registration

ICR - Intelligent Character Recognition
Today the term ICR is used to describe OCR methods that use new and/or multiple methods and technologies to recognize characters. The bitmap classifier inside
DSPL ICR is intelligent, self-learning, and works on unrestricted machine and hand print.
The Software Engine reads the following types of characters:
· Hand-printed uppercase and lowercase alpha
· Hand-printed numeric
· Machine-printed uppercase and lowercase alpha
· Machine-printed numeric
· Character Marks
· MICR
